SITE INFORMATION and ACCOMODATION PRICES

IslandWood Retreat Center, Bainbridge Island, Seattle WA, USA

This 255-acre facility began by offering programs to ten Seattle schools and has since developed into a “nationally recognized organization rooted in an integrated approach to scientific learning, self-awareness, and stewardship,” with a mission to provide exceptional learning experiences and to inspire life-long environmental stewardship.

IslandWood hosts conferences, meetings, weddings and special events. The facility has all the amenities necessary for a relaxing and memorable Conference. As you might expect, there is an abundance of walking trails on the campus allowing you to experience the natural world. We will be housed in beautiful Northwest-style lodges with ample space for informal conversations and exchanges between conference sessions. Bainbridge Island itself is just under 28 square miles and has a population of a little over 23,000. 35 miles off the coast of Seattle, it is reached by ferry (or if you are driving you can get there by road bridge).

GETTING TO ISLANDWOOD RETREAT CENTER

IslandWood is on Bainbridge Island, just a 35-minute ferry ride from the downtown Seattle ferry dock on the Bainbridge Island ferry. (Seattle is in the state of Washington on the West Coast of the United States, part of an area referred to as the Pacific Northwest.) ISLANDWOOD ADDRESS AND WEBSITE DIRECTIONS

The nearest airport is Sea-Tac International Airport. From Sea-Tac, you could take a taxi/shared van to the ferry dock. Another fairly simple option is to take Link Light Rail (CLICK HERE FOR LINK LIGHT RAIL INFORMATION) from the airport, getting off at the Pioneer Square Station (CLICK HERE FOR MAP OF PIONEER SQUARE STATION). From there, it is a short walk or cab ride to the ferry terminal. The Sea-Tac / Airport Station is connected to the fourth floor of the airport parking garage. Trains arrive and depart on the platform level of the station. The covered, level walkway to the airport terminal is one level down on the mezzanine. The well-lit walkway is separated from the main area of the garage and directional signs point the way to the main terminal skybridge. The Link Light Rail service runs from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. Monday through Saturday, and 6 a.m. to midnight on Sundays. Trains arrive and depart every 7.5 to 15 minutes, depending on the time of day.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Based on current schedules (CLICK HERE FOR FERRY SCHEDULE) the last ferries to Bainbridge Island each day leave at 1:35 a.m. on weekdays (resuming at 5:30 a.m.) and 2:10 a.m. on weekends (resuming at 6:10 a.m.). You will want to plan your flights so that you can catch a ferry within those hours. If you arrive outside these hours, you will need to spend the night in Seattle.

PLACES TO VISIT

The Pacific Northwest is beautiful. Parks, and places to hike are abundant. Bainbridge Island is the quintessential Puget Sound destination, a scenic corner steeped in rich history, small-town charm, warm community and central location. The island offers activities and dining that reflect a truly Northwest experience. Bainbridge Island’s places to visit include the Bloedel Reserve, a classic Northwest woodlands and garden, and Seattle is just a ferry ride away.

Seattle’s waterfront area, adjacent to the ferry, includes: Pioneer Square, the Pike Place Market, the Seattle Art Museum including its beautiful outdoor sculpture park, Benaroya Hall, and a host of professional theatres. If the timing is right, there might be a Seahawks football game, or a Sounder’s soccer game. A monorail ride away from the waterfront area is Seattle Center with the Chihuly Gardens, the Pacific Science Center, and the EMP Museum, and the home of the Seattle Opera, Northwest Ballet, Seattle Repertory Theatre, Seattle Children’s Theatre, and Seattle Shakespeare Theatre.
