Join us for an Island Retreat!

We are excited to invite you to join us at Islandwood Retreat Center on beautiful Bainbridge Island, just off the coast of the bustling sea-port of Seattle, USA for our 2017 Conference and Annual General Meeting.  Islandwood Retreat Center was founded at the turn of the 21st century as “a place where students from urban environments could explore the natural world, experience the joy of learning outdoors, and discover their own capacity to change the world around them.”  The 255-acre facility began by offering programs to ten Seattle schools and has since developed into a “nationally recognized organization rooted in an integrated approach to scientific learning, self-awareness, and stewardship,” with a mission to provide exceptional learning experiences and to inspire life-long environmental stewardship.  Hosting conferences, meetings, weddings and special events, the facility has all the amenities necessary for a relaxing and memorable Conference.  As you might expect, there is an abundance of walking trails on the campus allowing you to experience the natural world.  We will be housed in beautiful Northwest style lodges with ample space for informal conversations and exchanges between conference sessions.  Bainbridge Island itself is just under 28 square miles and has a population of a little over 23,000.  35 miles off the coast of Seattle, it is reached by ferry (or if you are driving you can get there by road bridge).

Our Conference presenters will provide a variety of approaches to the Alexander technique in the form of lectures, workshops, and early morning practice sessions to renew your curiosity, expand your skills, and challenge you as a teacher, trainee or student of the Alexander technique.  In addition, there will be informal and formal opportunities for teachers and trainees to exchange Alexander technique work with each other.

An important function of our time at Islandwood is our Annual General Meeting, where we get to experience the freedom and inclusivity of using Formal Consensus as a decision-making process to conduct the business of ATI.  Not only do we get to know each other better during this process, we also discover and take part in shaping the future of our organization, moving it ever forward and up!

We look forward to seeing you on Bainbridge Island this fall.
