Teacher Training in the Alexander Technique

West London, UK
£1527.50 per term

Candidates may be admitted to the Course for a Probationary Term, during which their suitability for the training can be assessed.

Events for September, 2009

23-30 August, Mas Collades, Cataluña, Spain

Mas Collades, 08660 Balsareny, Cataluña, Spain
September 23rd, 2009-August 30th, 2009
15:00 - 12:00
396 to 590 Euros
Teacher(s): John Hunter, Dorothea Magonet, Philippa Castell, Patrick Krysatis, Nuria George et al.
Description:These residential courses for teachers, trainees and experienced pupils have been running for several years now and everyone who has attended has been enthusiastic about the unique learning experience they have had. The course is run in English and is self-catering (communal cooking); special diets are catered for.
Note:For most people who are having or have had lessons in the Alexander Technique, the 30-40 minutes lesson-time is very focused on the study of the main principles of "inhibition" and "direction" with the help of the teacher's hands. Without this individual attention it is difficult for someone to experience just what is meant by these words.
To then go on and discover how to apply what we are learning to daily life can be a slow and sometimes lonely process. The idea behind these residential courses is to provide a supportive environment in which it is possible, through a range of different activities and through interaction with other people, to explore our "use" in situations which resemble daily life more than a typical Alexander lesson can.
We will work together with all sorts of practical activities: hands-on, exchanges, themed workshops and being together in a learning environment. This can be an exciting opportunity for making new discoveries.
Website:http://www.the-alexander-technique.eu
Open to:Open to teachers, trainees and experienced pupils. Teachers have option to come as full participants and have 5 hours daily of teachers classes and workshops with experienced teachers.
Teachers may also attend on a "half-and-half" basis, whereby half of the class-time each day they will teach the pupils, and run or assist in workshops; the other half of the time they may attend classes for teachers and workshops as part of their professional development.
This intense programme, in which one is both giving and receiving Alexander work, can be a unique learning and teaching experience.
There are special arrangements for fees for teachers participating in this way.
Contact: John Hunter

Additional Notes:A general outline of the programme is as follows.
We will arrive during the afternoon of the first day and, after settling in, have the "introductions" in the early evening and then have dinner.
After breakfast there will be workshops with the teachers in small groups from 9:00-10:30, followed by a break for coffee and then another workshop from 11:00-12:30.
After lunch there will be optional free or organised activities (tennis, table-tennis, swimming, walking, etc.) or time to take a siesta. In the early evening there will be more workshops between 5 and 7, including special workshops on the application of the Technique to particular activities.
Each pupil will receive one 30 minute private lesson during the week from one of the teachers.
After dinner we can just relax or join in some activities with others (singing/dancing/games). Musicians are welcome to bring their instruments.
On one of the days - mid-seminar, to make a break - there will be optional trips (for a small fee) to Montserrat (the extraordinary Benedictine Monastery on the top of a mountain) or other local places of interest; activities or just rest. We will still have our early evening workshops.
We will organise the catering for ourselves with everyone taking turns at cooking, cleaning etc.; a wonderful opportunity to apply the technique to practical tasks shared with other people.
On the last day we will we will have a leisurely breakfast and summing-up before departure.
Transfers can be arranged from and to Barcelona airport only at specific times on 23 and 30 August (cost: €60). Email for details before booking your flight. Otherwise participants can be picked up from Manresa Renfe Station for a small fee. Trains to Manresa leave regularly from Plaza de Cataluña in Barcelona.
